After a fine winter season in ski mountaineering, with the 2016 French Vertical Kilometre records for Mathéo Jacquemoud (40min05s) and Axelle Mollaret (49min17s), the Plum KV Courchevel went back into action in trainers this Wednesday 13 July. Over 4 dates (Wednesdays 13 and 27 July / 10 and 24 August), trail runners will be able to test themselves on this Vertical Race course of 5 km with 1,000 m of elevation gain from Le Praz to the summit of the La Loze relay. After the 4 rounds, the men’s and women’s records of summer 2016 will be rewarded with prize money of €500.

This first stage, part of the “Skyrunner France Series 2016” circuit, whose kick-off was given by Marc Villa, president of the association “France Skyrunning”, took place in wintry conditions with strong gusts of snow at the summit, located at an altitude of 2,300 m. But fortunately for the 39 valiant runners, a good soup from the cauldron was waiting at the finish to warm their bodies. This first stage was won by Kevin Manon in 41min14s ahead of Arnaud Mazet (42min29s) and William Perrier of the organising club Courchevel Sports Alpinisme in 42min32s.

In the women’s race, Corinne Favre of the La Sportiva team won hands down in 51min34s ahead of Marion Rouvier of the XTrem Run team (56min16s) and Dixandra Magisson (57min53s).

Challenge X2 KV Courchevel 2016 and 2017

People who took part in a ski mountaineering event in winter 2016 and who take part in a trail running event this summer 2016 will be ranked in the Challenge X2 KV Courchevel 2016. The standings of this challenge result from adding each participant’s best times in ski mountaineering and trail running, and the best men’s and women’s time of the year will be rewarded with prize money of €1,000. Runners who were unable to take part in a ski mountaineering event last winter can make up for it next winter and will then be ranked in the Challenge X2 KV Courchevel 2017, which will take into account the best time of summer 2016 together with that of winter 2017.

A concept unique in the world where ski mountaineers and trail runners can express themselves and compare their performances on a Vertical Kilometre course that is strictly identical in winter and summer!

Challenge X3 KV Courchevel 2017

These 4 trail running Vertical Kilometre races count towards the “Challenge X3 KV Courchevel 2017”. To be ranked in this challenge, you must take part at least once in each of the 3 Vertical Kilometre events offered in Courchevel. To do so, all you need to do is lace up your trainers for the “Plum KV Courchevel” 2016, whose first round was held this Wednesday 13 July, hop on your bike for the “Dynastar KV Courchevel” 2016 and put on your touring skis for the “Plum KV Courchevel” 2017. A good way to prepare for the extraordinary triathlon that has become the unmissable event for outdoor sports enthusiasts, combining these 3 disciplines in one day: the “Dynastar X3 Courchevel”, which will take place on 16 April 2017 (you can register online for this final event at courchevelsportsoutdoor.com).
