Ski Mountaineering World Cup - Courchevel 25 and 26 January 2014

A temple of alpine skiing and snow sports, Courchevel is about to return to its roots by hosting a stage of the ski mountaineering World Cup on 25 and 26 January 2014.
Between the world’s largest ski area and France’s first national park (the Vanoise National Park), this return to roots came about naturally, all the more so as the discipline has been developing at great speed over the past ten years or so.
Driven by significant progress in equipment, and fuelled by enthusiasm for values in tune with society’s evolution and strong lasting values, ski mountaineering is finding its place in the great wild open spaces but also in the heart of resorts, where great champions such as Kilian Jornet, William Bon Mardion, Mathéo Jacquemoud and Leatitia Roux train without limits.
For 4 years, Courchevel and the association “Courchevel Sports Alpinisme” have tirelessly organised a ski mountaineering race every week. And each season the sport attracts more followers, since everyone can practise it at their own pace (flat out or in contemplative mode…).
Whether they are the guides and instructors of Courchevel or the volunteers of the FFME’s 1,000 clubs, everyone introduces new practitioners to these new sensations of gliding, in contact with nature, in a spirit of discovery and of listening to the mountain: perfectly in tune with today’s gentle trends.
The World Cup: a tremendous spotlight!
Organising a ski mountaineering World Cup round in Courchevel means putting this invigorating discipline under the spotlights in an exceptional setting, since 80% of the race time will be visible from the start line. A configuration that would make historic races such as the Pierra Menta turn pale…
Enough to bring together spectators and lovers of the discipline, since a popular race counting towards the French Cup will be held on the same course, so that as many people as possible can rub shoulders with the best specialists of the discipline… A great event not to be missed!
