Once again it was in the snow that the 51 ski mountaineers set off on the course of the second Dynafit Ski Touring Courchevel (DSTC). The original concept of the race, with a time-trial start at Le Praz and a finish in Courchevel 1850 after 3.2 km and 500 m of elevation gain, continues to attract ski mountaineering enthusiasts and amateurs.
The 2012 men’s and women’s records were not beaten on this climb. With a time of 25min15s, Mathéo Jacquemoud of Team Ecrins Haute Alpes and a member of the French junior team won this edition and moved into second position in the 2012 provisional overall standings behind William Bon Mardion (24min51s). Anthony Fraissard of the 7th BCA took second place on this climb in 26min53s ahead of Frédéric Thérisod of the Courchevel Sports Alpinisme team in 27min50s. Patrick Rassat, coach of the French team, who was scouting for the French Ski Mountaineering Vertical Race Championships in Courchevel on 28 January, finished just off the podium in 28min48s and Pierre Gruneberg, soon to be 81, an instructor at the ESF Courchevel, amazed everyone by finishing in 1h17min51s.
Among the women, Emilie Favre of the Val d’Abondance club won in 33min39s and moved into second place in the provisional overall standings, currently topped by Stéphanie Duc (32min14s). Second place in this 2nd edition went to Sabine Morand of the CAF Albertville in 39min10s and Lise Favre of the Val d’Abondance club completed the podium in 41min12s.
The famous sports journalist Nelson Monfort, passing through Courchevel, came to present the prizes. He warmly congratulated all the volunteers and participants in this race. And, as only he knows how, he closed the prize-giving with a remarkable interview of the winner.
